Brief
To define notification guidelines for Intel’s Tizen Operating System, with a focus on handsets and netbooks.
Notifications are essential and fundamental to the user experience on handsets. They shape the behaviour of the home screens, lock screens and notification panels for all operating systems. Notifications and their behaviour define how applications interact with users and inform them when interesting things happen. A good notification system is fundamental to good interaction between an operating system, application and user.
Deliverable
A detailed study on notifications and their behaviour across iOS, Android and Windows operating systems on handsets was done. This provided insight to an all encompassing notification guideline document for Tizen handsets.
The final deliverable supports local, remote, push and rich push notifications. Notification formats and content (badges, banners, dialogs etc.), auxiliary notification features, aggregated notifications, concurrent notifications and user control were taken into consideration.
